Gönczi György 72 éves magyar bácsi, akinek az élete a horgászat. Feleségével, 3 gyermekével és 7 unokájával a mai napig hódol a horgászat szenvedélyének. 1984-től kezdte gyűjteni a különleges “horgászrelikviákat”, mondhatni egy élet munkája van benne, amely nemcsak a magyar, de a külföldről érkező horgászok számára is érdekes lehetett.
A Gyuri bácsi horgászat iránti szeretete csodákra volt képes. 2006-ban nyitotta meg saját gyűjteményéből álló kiállítását, mellyel egy élet álma vált valóra. A kiállítás rengeteg embert csalogatott Balatonalmádi városába, még külföldiek is örömmel látogatták ezt a rendkívüli tárgyakkal teli múzeumot.
Csupán néhány különlegesség a gyűjteményből:
- az orsók ősének számító, száz éves Nottingham faorsó, belső sárgaréz mozgókoronggal, felszabadítható fékkel
- az első világháború előtti időkből származó bakelitorsó
- egy háború előtti Hardy orsó, mely ma is működhetne
- az első híres Papp-féle orsó
- izgalmas látnivalók a DAM, az ABU és más nagy cégek korabeli orsói is
- az 1947-ben kiadott Hokév horgászcikk-katalógus
- sok olyan horgászbotja is van, melyekkel versenyzők vagy neves emberek horgásztak. Különleges botjai is vannak, köztük az első csepeli csőbot, amely az ötvenes években készült és egyedi darab. Egy bambuszbot, melyet 1946-ban egy apuka készített magának, a kisfiának meg egy másikat mogyorófavesszőből Ezekkel horgásztak egymás mellett. A kisfiú elment a múzeumba, és Gyuri bácsinak ajándékozta mind a kettőt.
- a gyűjteményben fellelhető az orosz páncélautó antennájából készült bot, melynek tulajdonosa Battonyánál lépte át a határt
- egymás mellett sorakoznak a tőrpengés, a ragasztott, az öszvérbotok (alja üveg, a toldalék pedig ragasztott nád), valamint a tengeri nádbotok. Közülük is kiemelkedik egy tengeri borsnád bot, amely az 1940-es években készült.
- Láthatunk még egy horgászcsónakot, egy különleges horgászládát, a tárolókban számos érdekes régi iratot, köztük a hajdani Sporthorgász néhány megfakult példányát.
- Van dobóháló, varsa, angolna csapda.
- Az egyenként ezer literes akváriumokban pedig több tucat, a Balatonban élő halakat nézhetjük meg, a pontytól a leső harcsáig bezáróan.
A helyi horgász – és pecabolt-tulajdonos – olyan elemeket vonultatott fel, amelyek nem csak a magyar érdeklődők, hanem a külföldiek számára is temérdek érdekességgel kecsegtettek, ezt bizonyítja, hogy az ország minden részéről jöttek látogatók, és külföldről is, főleg Németországból, Szlovákiából, Ausztriából. De voltak már Japánból, Norvégiából és Hollandiából is, akik ellátogattak hozzá.
Sajnos a sors úgy hozta, hogy Gyuri bácsinak meg kell válnia gyűjteményétől, mely egy fájdalmas döntés részéről, hiszen ez volt az élete! A kiállítás megszűnése nem csupán az idős bácsi életében okoz szomorúságot, hanem egyúttal megfosztja az embereket ettől a páratlan, balatoni horgászat történetével való megismerkedés lehetőségétől.
- Ha nem ismernéd a magyar “tengert”….Egy kis kitekintés a Balatonra
Közép-Európa legnagyobb kiterjedésű édesvízi tava a Balaton, méltán tekinthető Magyarország nemzeti kincsének. A Balaton minden évszakban várja a látogatókat. Jelentős szerepet tölt be a Balaton turizmusában a tó horgászturizmusa. Nem csak legenda, ha a horgász szerencse úgy hozza, a balatoni horgászat szerelmesei bizony megtelt szákokkal térhetnek haza – akár egy csónakban eltöltött horgászeste, akár a balatoni nyárfák alatt eltöltött kalandos halfogás után.
- A kezdeményezés célja
Úgy érezzük, nem engedhető meg, hogy Gyuri bácsi oly sok éven át összegyűjtött, különleges horgászati tárgyai a feledés homályába merüljenek. Éppen ezért kezdeményezésünk fő célja a muzeális értékű gyűjtemény fenntartása, gondozása és az érdeklődő látogatók elé való tárása a következő évek során is. Hasonlóan fontos szempont, hogy a megmentett gyűjteményből a diákok, tanulók is sokkal nagyobb és érdekesebb betekintést nyerhetnek a balatoni horgászat történetébe.
Szeretnénk, ha Gyuri bácsi gyűjteménye újra egy helyen válna elérhetővé mindenki számára, ahová bárki, bármikor betérhet, élvezheti a gyűjtemény minden egyes darabjában rejlő történetet, színvonalas időt tölthet el és feltöltődve, jó élményekkel térhet haza.
Úgy döntöttünk tehát, hogy teszünk ez ügyben, és:
Összegyűjtjük a pénzt, és tovább éltetjük Gyuri bácsi “horgászrelikviáit”!
- Mire van szükségünk a projekt megvalósításához és mire költjük a kampányból összegyűjtött pénzt?
Természetesen pénzre, megközelítőleg 5 millió HUF (16 300 EUR) az, amire szükségünk van, tehát ez kampányunk célösszege.
Első lépésben egy a célnak megfelelő ingatlant keresünk, ahol a Gyuri bácsi gyűjteménye helyet kaphat a látogatók számára.

- 2 millió HUF (6 500 EUR) –kb. 24 hónapra elegendő bérleti díj.

Saving Uncle Gyuri’s “angling relics”
We are trying to raise fund for buying and exhibiting Uncle Gyuri’s angling relics. Please help us maintain this valuable collection!

Uncle György Gönczi is a 72 years old Hungarian gentleman, whose life equals angling. With his wife, 3 children and 7 grandchildren, he has had his passion of angling to date. He began collecting special “angling relics” in 1984, so to say he has had a lifetime of work in it, with pieces which could be found interesting not only for the Hungarian but also for those anglers coming from abroad.
Uncle Gyuri’s love to angling has been creating miracles. He opened the exhibition of his own collection in 2006, by which his dream of a life came true. The exhibition drew plenty of people to the town of Balatonalmádi; even people from foreign countries were happy to visit the museum just full of extraordinary objects.
Only some of the specialities of the collection:
- Considered to be the ancestor of all reels, a hundred years old Nottingham wooden spinning reel, with internal brass moving disc and freeing brake
- bakelite reel from the times prior to WWI
- a pre-war Hardy reel, which would work even today
- the first famous Papp-type reel
- exciting things to see include DAM, ABU and other large companies’ contemporary reels
- the Hokév-catalogue of angling articles issued in 1947
- there are several fishing-rods, with which competitors and famous people used to fish. The collection also includes some very special rods, among others, the first Csepel tube rod, which was produced in the fifties and which is a unique piece. A bamboo rod, which was prepared by a father for himself and another one of hazelnut-twig for his little son in The two of them would fish next to each other. The little boy went to the museum and gave both rods to Uncle Gyuri as present.
- Further pieces to be found in the collection include the rod made from the antenna of the Russian armoured car, the owner of which crossed the state border at Battonya
- the dagger –blade, stuck and mixed rods (with glass bottom, and the elongation piece of stuck cane) are all in line next to one another as well as the cane rods for sea fishing. Among all of them emerges a rod of pepper cane for sea fishing which was made in the 1940s.
- Pieces to be further seen include a fishing boat and a special fishing box with various interesting old papers and some of the faded issues of old “Sporthorgász” magazine.
- There are casting nets, fish-traps and eel-baskets as well.
- Moreover, in the aquariums each of a thousand litres several dozens of fish living in the Lake Balaton can be observed from carp to sheat-fish.
The local angler and fishing-rod shop owner – listed such elements, which showed plenty of pieces that were found interesting for not only the Hungarian but also for the foreign visitors. This is proven by the fact that visitors came from all parts of the country and from abroad as well, mainly from Germany, Slovakia and Austria. However, there have been visitors from distant locations like Japan, Norway, and The Netherlands as well.
Unluckily times evolved so that Uncle Gyuri now has to give up his collection, which is a painful decision from his side since that has been his life! The termination of the exhibition does not only cause bitterness in the old man’s life but at the same time it deprives people from this odd opportunity to get to know the history of angling at the Lake Balaton.
- If you did not know the Hungarian “see”….a little outlook on the lake Balaton
The Lake Balaton is the largest of all the freshwater lakes of Middle-Europe; therefore it is worthily considered to be a national treasure of Hungary. The Lake Balaton awaits its visitors in all four seasons. The angling tourism fills a significant part of the whole tourism of the Lake Balaton. It is not only a legend that if the luck of fishing brings it so, lovers of Balaton fishing will return home with full landing-nets – just like after a fishing evening spent in a boat or after an adventurous fish-catching under the aspens of Balaton.
- The goal of the initiative
We do feel Uncle Gyuri’s extraordinary fishing tools collected throughout so many years should not be let into the mist of forgetting. That is just why the major goals of our initiative are to maintain, caretaking and presenting of the collection with museum value to the visitors interested during the coming years as well. Similarly important is the aspect that from the saved collection students would have a larger and more interesting view upon the history of Balaton fishing.
We would like if Uncle Gyuri’s collection found a new place to be available for all, where anyone can drop in at any time to enjoy history in every piece of the collection, while spending quality time to return home all filled with good experiences.
Therefore we have decided to act and:
Raise the fund to make Uncle Gyuri’s “angling relics” live further!
- What do we need for the realisation of the project and what do we spend the fund raised from the campaign?
Obviously, what we need is money – approximately HUF 5 Million (16 300 EUR), therefore that is the target fund of our campaign.
As the first step we need to find a property that is suitable for the subject purpose, whereas Uncle Gyuri’s collection could be placed and exhibited for the visitors.
- The total value of Uncle Gyuri’s overall collection is HUF 3 Million (9 800 EUR)
- Rental fee of HUF 2 Million (6 500 EUR) –approx. covering 24 months of rental.
